The Faculty

Ed Naughton                               

Led by Ed Naughton, one of the world's most respected figures in project management, the faculty combines academic excellence with practitioner experience. The faculty spans finance, business administration, computer science, engineering, industrial relation and human resources, law, management information systems, and marketing. Many faculty members consult for international corporations, and are officers of global institutions and academic forums on project management. Our research efforts produce work of national and international importance with a focus on the contribution of project management to competitiveness.

Professor Sebastian Green
Sebastian Green is Head of the Department of Management and Marketing in University College Cork. He supports the principle that an association between an academic institution and an independent educational body ensures professional development of the highest quality and the most practical application. His module on the programme examines in an in-depth manner organisational strategy, its influences and the role of project & programme management therein.
Dr. Donncha Kavanagh
Dr. Donncha Kavanagh is an engineer with a masters degree in project management and lecturer in the Department of Management at University College Cork. He has extensive experience in the application of project management techniques - planning, scheduling and cost control - on a wide variety of high profile projects in Ireland. The marriage of his applied background and academic view points supports strongly the philosophy of the entire programme.
Dr. Martina Ryan, IPMA-B, PMP ®
With over 15 years industrial experience in the areas of Project Management, Continuous Improvement (Lean/6-Sigma) and R&D, she has extensive experience in project management as a practitioner, leader, instructor and mentor. Martina has led a range of multi-site projects across Europe and America in the pharmaceutical industry including product transfers, relocation of facilities and continuous improvement culture change. Her experience has led her to work with a variety of public and private organisations, including environmental, construction and instrumentation. She specialises in facilitating and managing implementation of practical project management and improvement solutions.
 
John Vickery, DipEng, MSc, C.Eng, F.IEI, FIMechE
John Vickery was formerly Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and is now Registrar at the Institute of Technology Tallaght. He has extensive experience in quality systems and project management and has managed a number of EU funded projects. He is currently participating in an EU funded LIFE project with the City of Rome in developing an action plan for the city for the reduction of GHG emissions by 6.5% of the 990 levels by 2012 as set by the Kyoto Protocol for Italy. He has over 10 year's industrial experience in the areas of manufacturing, quality, maintenance and management.
 
Jim Mogan, BSc, MBA,
Jim Mogan specialises in the negotiation and communications aspects of project management. He has established a reputation as an international trainer and has prepared programmes in all aspects of change management in the United States, Europe, and Australia. He has worked in senior project management capacities in the Brewing, Automotive, and Customer Services sectors, with Guinness, Dunlop, American Management Association, and Management Europe.
 
Ruth Buckley, MBA, IPMA-B, PMP®
Ruth Buckley is Head of Information Systems at Cork City Council and formerly worked with Bank of Ireland. She has lead many high risk and complex projects such as YR 2000 and Euro change over. Her particular areas of interest are programme and portfolio management which necessitates an ability to maintain strategic focus while implementing project management standards and methodologies. She has participated in writing examination questions for International Examination and is also a lead assessor in the IPMA Four Level Certification System.
 
Frank Nugent, Degree Education and Training, MA Adult Learning & Development, MIITD
Frank Nugent  is an experienced mountaineer, explorer and expedition leader. He was deputy leader of the first and successful Irish Everest Expedition, followed in the footsteps of Shackleton across the Island of South Georgia and sailed the Northwest Passage in the wake of Crozier and McClintok. He is an expert in occupational training, assessment and accreditation.
 
John  Cahill  , BComm, MSc (Mgmt), IPMA-B
John  Cahill is the former Finance Director of the PM Group, Ireland's largest engineering design and project management organisation, with over 1,500 personnel. Prior to joining the PM Group he worked in a very senior project management capacity on some of Ireland's highest profile projects. He specialises in project management education with particular emphasis on cost and procurement management. He is also a member of the IPMI certification board where  he is actively involved in the assessment of certification candidates.
